GSE Geometry Syllabus
Instructor: Mr. Michael Day

Course Overview:
Geometry is the second course in a sequence of three required high school courses designed to ensure career and college readiness. The course represents a discrete study of geometry with correlated statistics applications.
Course Outline:
This course will consist of the following 6 units:
Unit 1: Transformations in the Coordinate Plane
Unit 2: Similarity, Congruence, and Proofs
Unit 3: Right Triangle Trigonometry
Unit 4: Circles and Volume
Unit 5: Geometric and Algebraic Connections
Unit 6: Applications of Probability
Supplies:
Tests/Quizzes:
Grading:
Formative (quizzes/warm-ups/graded homework)
Informal (daily assessments/daily homework)
Georgia Milestone End-Of-Course:
Mathematics Department Mastery Plan:
Notebook and Binder:
Tutoring: Tutoring is offered at specific times throughout the week. I will be
available on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 8-8:30am with
a pass. Additional tutoring is offered by other math teachers and can be found
on the NPHS website or posed outside my door.
Make-Up Work:
Textbook Used: none
Classroom Expectations:
#1 Be in your seat when the bell rings…this means that you are in your assigned
seat working on our warmup when the bell rings
#2 You are to be working at all times on current math material…you are not to work
on another class assignment or sleep in class.
#3 Be prepared for class…Bring all materials necessary to be successful in class.
This includes but is not limited to your notebook, pencils, paper, and calculator
#4 Be respectful…This includes myself, each other and the classroom environment.
Nobody will be allowed to take away from the educational opportunities of others.
Classroom Entrance/Dismissal:
When students enter the classroom, they should immediately be seated, take out their
homework and begin working on today’s warmup. Students should be in their seats when the
bell rings. Students are to remain in their seats until I dismiss the class (not the bell).
Students will wait until the instructor has completed the day’s work to begin packing up materials.
Homework:
Homework is defined as specific tasks assigned by teachers to be completed on non-school hours. The purpose of homework may be practice, preparation and/or extension of instructional objectives aligned to our curriculum. The homework will be assigned at a level that students can complete independently whether done at home, a library, or other educational setting. The student MUST show the steps used (as modeled in class) and not just an answer.
Students are expected to complete all homework before the next class period.
Hall passes:
Students will receive “five” passes to use throughout the semester, one for each month.
Passes may not be used the first fifteen or last fifteen minutes of class. In addition, passes
will not be used during instructional time.
I believe:
In Mastery Learning
In student lead classrooms
In varied instruction: discovery, pair-share, collaboration, math talk
In respect, readiness and responsibility among all….. myself, students, and parents.
You are ultimately responsible for your learning in this class. I will always be here to support you, but I cannot do it for you. You must take ownership of your own learning in order to be successful.

Georgia Milestone End-Of-Course:
- The EOC is a state-mandated test that counts 20% of the overall class average.
Mathematics Department Mastery Plan:
- Students will have an opportunity to show mastery (retest) on one unit test per semester.
- To take advantage of this, students must satisfy the following:
- must have attempted the original assessment
- prepare for and attend at least one tutoring session with their teacher
- complete all assignments that support the instruction of the assessment
- Any assessment where cheating has occurred is exempt from this opportunity
